The 24-week Program is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in photography, with a particular emphasis on photos destined for art galleries.
The first part, from January to May, covers the fundamentals and all the themes linked to photography (core courses): photojournalism, studio photography, computer imaging, visual identity, as well as the history of photography.
Then, during two months, the program focuses on the conception and finalization of framed prints that are to be presented in art galleries (specialization modules). Participants also attend the opening week of the "Rencontres d'Arles". |

Combining lectures with visits to museums and galleries, this course aims at giving an overview of the history of photography and the constantly evolving photographic processes, from their origins in France to the present day.
Emphasis is placed on the analysis of real prints rather than reproductions, taking advantage of the rich photographic resources available in the museums and galleries of Paris. Whenever possible, meetings with photographers will be organized.

Visits include museums as La Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Le Centre National de la Photographie, Le Musée Carnavalet, Le Musée d'Orsay and others. Gallery visits focus on current temporary exhibitions in Paris.

-> Essentials of Photography
- 1,5 hours per week
This course deals with practical aspects of photographic techniques. The work carried out by the students during the week will be analysed.
Various lecturers also come to share their experience with the students and talk about the practical aspects of their life as photographers.

-> Specialization Module Post-Production
- 15 hours per week during 3 weeks
In class and through personal tutoring, participants – guided by their instructors – specialize in retouching and photo-montage. They aim at continually improving the skills and techniques necessary within the domain of post-production. Outside of class, they continue to shoot during their personal studio sessions, set up in the studios at Spéos.

-> Specialization Module Printing and Framing
- 15 hours per week during 5 weeks (in two parts)
This module combines advanced digital printing techniques with ancient procedures, such as Heliography, Daguerreotype, Palladium, Collodion, Albumin and others. It is essential – considering the recent market developments – to keep up the historical know-how with regard to these alternative methods. Through lectures, visits of galleries and artists’ workshops, as well as personal project work, participants familiarize themselves with different framing and mounting techniques, how to present limited editions, how to preserve valuable prints – in short: how to further enhance and finalize their prints that are destined for art galleries.
